WIP: tulip toes
Thursday, July 10. 2008
I've never made socks before, let alone itty bitty baby booties, but since a million of my friends are currently pregnant (or, at least, three of them!), I've decided to go and try to make some booties.
For B, who's due to give birth in to a baby girl next month, I've picked a cutesy little pattern called 'tulip toes', which folds up to look somewhat like tulip buds. awwwww
The soles are done - I finished them when I was in Boston. My goal for the weekend is to finish them and mail them off.

Overall, it was a fairly pleasing pattern to work with - a very simple lace ( k4 [yo/k2tog] k4 x9, [k] x6 ). It was the first time I've really done lace, or worked with such a small, fuzzy yarn, which is the real reason it took so long to complete. It's currently blocking (as seen in the image). It's really too late to wear it, with as cold as it already is, but it'll be good next year, in early fall.

A few weeks ago, knitty published a pattern for a simple lace scarf made from mohair and silk that looked so soft and warm. So, of course, I needed to make it -- I need something that's warmer than nothing, but not as warm as Lady Eleanor and something a little dressier than my polar fleece yellow-smiley-face-on-red scarf.
I picked out Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Hurricane - a pretty shade of blue, though it's darker in person (on my monitor, anyway).
I've been working on it roughly since the Fourth of July - I had the yarn shipped to my parents' and picked it up when I was visiting.
I'm past the halfway mark right now - last night, I finished the 9th repeat, so I've only got 7-8 more to go.
No photos, though - my camera is borked. You'll probably not get to see it til it's done.

Discarded Project: Corazon Mittens
Tuesday, March 6. 2007
I won't show you photos, because I don't want to scare you away. That and the one mitten that was finished looked absolutely wretched. It's really warm - really, really warm. Which, while a good thing, doesn't take away from the horror of looking at it.
I tried the Corazon pattern from this winter's Knitty (out of Noro Kureyon #182 and a black wool), but .. I don't know. It had issues. After the colorwork, the top kind of exploded before coming back down. The thumb? Five kinds of horrendous.
As I said, it was nice and warm. I actually wore it a few times, when it was sub-zero (actual temperature) last month and I had to stand out there and scrape and scrape and scrape my car, or fill the gas tank. But the fug made me not want to attempt mitten #2.
I'm thinking about unraveling it after I'm done with my two WIPs and making a plain mitten, but time will tell if I end up doing that.

I did most of the knitting in November, but started it in October and ended the knitting portion of things in early December. It took awhile before I unpacked to my knitting so I could go and do the knotted fringe.
I rather enjoyed the pattern - it's pretty calm and forgiving. I think that I may make another one, but with different dimensions (more of a lap blanket than a shawl, and with some wool rather than Noro).
